A few of my favorite things to do at Grandma and Grandpa's pig farm was play with the piglets, adopt all the barn cats, walks in the fields, homemade milkshakes and making play dough.
I've been missing Gram extra lately and the smell when we were making this today brought me right back to her kitchen. I could even remember the smell of her makeup basket that sat by the large window at the far end of the kitchen (it was the best light in the house) that would soon convert to the play dough station. It was the best way to start our day today.
This recipe is quick, it's easy and it's a great activity to keep your littles busy when you're trying to beat the summer heat!
Homemade Play Dough
2 cups all purpose flour
2 cups warm water
1 cup salt
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1 tbsp cream of tartar
Optional: Food coloring
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, vegetable oil and cream of tartar. Boil two cups up water in a sauce pan on the stove. Add to dry mixture and mix. Wait to handle the dough until it cools down a bit and you can handle it without burning your hands.
Optional: Divide and add food coloring of choice.
Store in airtight containers at room temperature.
Enjoy!
